The 50.82-meter Northern Sun, (previously named the Hokko Maru), was launched in 1976 under the control and funding of the Hokkaido National Fisheries Research Institute of Japan.
…After only 14-months in the HYS refit facility, the Northern Sun re-entered international waters as modern, world-class luxury yacht
After retirement, her new American owner appointed HYS Yachts to convert this former fishing research vessel into a long-range, family-friendly expeditionary yacht with just the right combination of luxury and recreational appointments to keep the adults comfortable… and the children happily occupied.
After only 14-months in the HYS refit facility, the Northern Sun re-entered international waters as modern, world-class luxury yacht complete with a 65-square-meter sun deck with jacuzzi spa, a home-styled 125-square-meter saloon, a spacious full-beam owner’s cabin, two VIP staterooms, two guest cabins, and one double-bunk children’s cabin.
Additional requirements for this project included a roof-mounted tender platform large enough to double as a mini-copter heli-deck; a 200-horse-power stern thruster unit; a ship-wide electrical frequency converter; and a sleek new stern profile.
