Sometimes you just never know who’s going to walk through the doors at HYS Yachts.
Take yachting luminary and past creator/owner of the world renowned “Maltese Falcon” Tom Perkins as just one example.
I am absolutely delighted with Dr. No and with the superb work HYS did to bring her to perfection, on time and on budget.Over the years, I have had rather a lot of experience with various yards around the world, and I can honestly say that it is a rarity to find a yard that is so organized, competent and skilled. Now we are able to begin our adventures with a yacht in which we have total confidence.
I can’t thank you enough for delivering to me this wonderful yacht.
-Tom Perkins, Owner
Tom contacted us back in 2010 when we were selling “Blue Hunter” for a previous HYS client. At the time, Tom was on a mission to find the perfect vessel that could be refitted into an all-world explorer capable of accommodating a full complement of guests, crew, and one of his newest toys: the spectacular 2-seater Super Falcon submarine.
After a few meetings, Tom contracted with HYS to buy “Blue Hunter” and have it refitted to his exacting requirements which included, of course, his submarine.
After a frenetic six-month refit schedule, the project was completed on-time and on budget to everyone’s delight and “Blue Hunter” was officially re-christened “Dr. No” before setting off into the South Pacific.
A number of very specific items Tom wanted changed during the refit included increasing the master suite headroom by 7cm, transforming the casual dinette area into a library/study area, totally reworking the crew accommodations (creating three separate en-suite cabins – a captain’s double, two twin-bunk cabins and an engineer’s cabin), and adding a comfortable European standard crew mess area with entertainment and internet systems as well as a laundry room.
In addition, a four bunk guest cabin was converted to a ship’s office/media room, a new dive store and workshop were fabricated forward of the well deck, a new air conditioning plant was installed, new bridge navigation equipment was fitted, and more.
